Christine, the curious thing is that Ron didn’t save Draco’s life. He wouldn’t have even remembered about Draco and Goyle, if Harry hadn’t thought about them. It was Harry who saved Draco twice (‘cos he also Stunned the Death Eater who was about to kill Draco), but it was Ron who punched Draco afterwards. This is one of the situations that show why Harry is really the Chosen One, and Ron is just a sidekick :-P As for Draco returning to the bad side… I don’t think he was so eager to join Voldemort, he was just trying to stay alive, and as he had no wand (and as he was a sly Slytherin, of course :-D), the only way out was to tell the Death Eater that he was loyal to the Dark Lord.
Linny, I agree that Draco does need a punch sometimes – and when Hermione punched him in Book 3, or when Harry punched him on the quidditch field in Book 5, I was totally on the Gryffindors’ side. But to my mind, what Ron did was just unnecessary and… well, not very brave and noble thing to do.
