23rd James Bond Title Confirmed: “Skyfall” (Updated With Cast)

A press conference is currently taking place with the production team of the 23rd and as-yet-untitled James Bond film. There is much speculation that a title will be revealed, as well as cast members and a few other key details. The title “Skyfall” has been making its way around the Internet and presses as a possibility, but there is no confirmation or official indication at this point. Update: there is now! Skyfall was one of the many rumours confirmed today, see the updates at the bottom of this post for more.

What we already know:

  • Director: Sam Mendes
  • Producers: Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli
  • Screenplay: Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, John Logan
  • Bond film #23, Daniel Craig’s third film as James Bond
  • Release date (U.K.): 26th October 2012
  • Release date (U.S.): 9th November 2012
  • Confirmed villains include: Javier Bardem
  • Other cast members: Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes
  • Score: David Arnold (five Bonds in his portfolio!)

12.33 p.m.:  From the BBC:

Mendes said the storyline will take the secret agent to London, China, Turkey and Scotland. It will see Bond’s loyalty tested to M, his superior, while espionage headquarters MI6 faces an attack.

The article also states that the cast will begin filming next Thursday.
12.14 p.m.
: Conference wraps up. Dame Judi Dench, Javier Bardem as the villain also confirmed. From the @007 Twitter:

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli explain that the title Skyfall has “some emotional context”.
Director Sam Mendes says Skyfall “is its own story. It doesn’t connect with the last two movies”.

12.00 p.m.: Ben Whishaw (BBC TV drama The Hour), Albert Finney (Big Fish, Erin Brockovich), Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter) confirmed to star. Also, Bérénice Marlohe as Severin, Naomie Harris as field agent Eve.
11.50 a.m.: The title of the new film is, as it had been rumoured, “Skyfall”.
10.16 a.m.: Lizo Mzimba, entertainment correspondent for the BBC has tweeted:

“At @007 press conference. Video screen behind desk. Presumably to reveal title of Bond 23. Looks like we’ll also meet 4 new cast members.”

    holy smoke, they’re making another one? I thought they forgot about this series. I’ve been a Bond fan since the mid 80s, looking forward to it.
