Actor Sherman Hemsley Dead at 74

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Sherman Hemsley, star of The Jeffersons, has died:

Hemsley, who was 74, was found in his El Paso, Texas home; no cause of death is yet known. He was unmarried, and had no children.

Hemsley was best known for his role as George Jefferson, a character he played for 13 years beginning in 1973. He was first introduced as the neighbor to Archie and Edith Bunker on All in the Family, and continued in The Jeffersons until 1985. He also parodied and cameoed the character on other shows like Family Matters and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
