Ben Affleck Cast as the New Batman

This is not a drill, folks! Ben Affleck is cast as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.

Last month at Comic-Con, director Zack Snyder made the incredibly epic announcement that the Dark Knight would be appearing alongside Superman in the follow-up to this year’s Man of Steel. Today, Warner Bros. announced that Ben Affleck officially joined the movie, replacing Christian Bale as the iconic character. While the character may be familiar, the studio’s press release states that the film will present “an entirely new incarnation” of Batman.

Superman and Batman

In a statement, WB President Greg Silverman said:

We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.

Snyder added:

Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.

The still-untitled sequel has now been confirmed to hit theaters worldwide on July 17, 2015. Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Diane Lane are all reprising their roles.

Seems to be a lot of people against this but I don’t think Affleck was that bad as Daredevil so I think he can probably do a decent job here. It all really depends on what direction the script is going, so it is hard to say if it is a good casting or not yet.
