“And I was blind to think it lay across the sea.” A grown-up realization of fact or a bowing to the inevitable problems of a long-distance relationship? A light hearted pop tune juxtaposed with introspective lyrics, a bit sad when one realizes it’s the death-song of a prior love, but showing emotional growth nontheless.

  • http://twitter.com/fm014 Fox

The song has its moment, but most of the time I was thinking that it could be better :-/

  • Hollie

    Brilliant :D

  • HoBo

    Nice keyboard work.
Awkward harmonies; they make it hard to listen.
    But catchy tune.

  • Horseluvr13

It’s kinda hard to hear Alex

  • AmyOFaz

I like the lyrics, and the tune and I think it would grow on me but I’m not that keen on the harmony. It would work better, in my opinion, with just one of the voices. Both are brilliant (obviously) but I don’t think they work together in this song.

    • Bax Barr

      I totally agree.

    • sandra

Yeah, Id agree on that too.

    • leigh

i agree. i really liked the acoustic version, so i wasn’t really sure what it was about this version that i didn’t like, but i’m pretty sure it’s the harmony. it just doesn’t really work with the song.

      • Taylor

        Where’s the acoustic version?

    • guest

i think thier voices contrast well but everyone has different opinions i guess. :)

  • Katherine

Still like it, but think I liked the acoustic version better…. you could actually hear Alex’s voice!

    • Rickyh1990

Where is the acoustic version? :)

      • Katherine

        It’s a secret ;)

        • http://twitter.com/CallMeBlake Blake

I can hear Alex just fine, he and Tom have unique and separate voices, and person who wants the acoustic version, learn how to use google.

          • nermie

            nermiearmy is secret

            • Yourmom

              NERMIE ARMY. geezus.

      • Julia

I’m sorry, but that information is confidential.

  • http://twitter.com/el_moose Laura Slee

There is nothing in particular about this song which is bad. Each individual part works well seperately, but as a whole I just don’t think it comes together. The tune is lovely, very Tom Milsom-y, the lyrics are beautiful and both Tom and Alex’s voices are amazing to listen to, as always. However, the lyrics of this song obviously have a lot of personal meaning, and by having them set to a tune that captures your attention all by itself, with or without lyrics of any kind, that meaning seems to be lost somehow.

Or yeah somefink like that :)

    • Katherine

I totally agree- very nicely said.

    • Nisha

I understand what you mean about how the music is so attention-grabbing it’s hard to listen and think about the lyrics, but I think that might be a good thing. It means it’s really hard to get bored of this song because there’s just SO MUCH there to listen to. I understand how you think things can be lost, because it’s true, it’s easy to forget to listen to certain things with so much going on in the song, but I think that’s what makes the song great (:

  • Quackjeffquack

This sounds like the closing credits of a nintendo 64 game.

  • EmmyBee

everybody is saying, oh its really good in some areas but it could be better..
I FUCKING LOVE IT AND I CANT STOP LISTENING TO IT
I will know this word for word before you know it :)
    dnejfnesjdfnjfg your voices ughhghhh hnnnnnggggggg
i love you tom AND I LOVE YOU ALEX GEORGE RICHARD DAY!!!!

  • Tara

i love it! would have liked to hear alex more though…..

  • Anna

    It was… okay.

  • Esllava

First I thought it would sound better without Tom, but finally… I really like it like that.
But we don’t hear Alex enought, there’s like a little problem!
Anyway, two excellents musicians… made an excellent song!

  • http://twitter.com/Steephniie Stéphanie

There’s a bit too much of everything, in my opinion. I think (but I could be wrong) that I would’ve liked it better if you had used the piano with just one additional instrument or sound-effect-thingie and perhaps left one of the voices out for some verses. But then again, the two of you probably put a hell of a lot of work into this and if you like it and are proud of it, then I’m happy for you. Oh, and the intro is frickin’ catchy.

  • Oscarsm86

I really like it, the harmonies are nice, well done guys

  • Phinaleung

    very lovely melody :) :)

  • Alexday is mine:D

I think if it was just alex.. <3

  • Just_me

What is everyone saying? Its a great song, and its really different to most of Alex’s songs. Although I love Alex’s voice, I think its nice to have a song with Tom in aswell. Great job :D

  • JulieBee198

    Me gusta.

  • Capt.Jack

Think it would work better with one voice.. sorry Alex and Tom :/ x

  • Ankle Bayfi

It sounds too bitty. Sorry :

  • Esprit

I always find it refreshing when the content of a song doesn’t necessarily match the song’s tone. This song sets you up to enjoy a catchy tune, but ultimately reveals to you its sad underbelly. I will say that there’s /something/ not quite right…I’m tempted to say that it’s the surplus of harmonies. I think that starting off with just Alex and then moving into the harmonies as the song progressed would make more sense. It would also help the listener to appreciate the harmonies more — we’re exposed to them throughout the entire song, so we just take them to be the standard. If they were a little more rare, they would be a lot more impressive. Overall, though, I thought it was pretty successful. The message rang through crystal clear, and the light music helped bounce the listener along through some dark ideas.

  • Onebreathleftxo

i love hearing alex’s voice kinda float over top as a harmony. beautiful<3

  • Kiki

Such a good song :) I’m definitely going to get it.

  • Happy

In the description, y’all misspelled “Nerimon” :(
but i like the song!!!!!! :D

  • GUEST

this song is amazing. so neh

  • lil ob

it was good, but i feel like there was a little to much harmonizing and a little to little, well, alex. but ill still buy it on itunes.

  • Kathryn

It would be a good song but…the lyrics don’t really match the melody. It should be quieter to suit the mood and I think Alex’s voice alone would sound better.

  • sam

I’m liking the sound, Tom Milsom’s voice really dominates.

  • Kye

Definitely preferred the acoustic version, but it’s still fantastic.

    • Davidamarie

where did you get to hear the acoustic version?

      • Kye

        It’s a secret!

        • nermie

          yup ;-P

        • Cameron

          Kye
Please tell us where we can listen to it

          • Chloe!

We can’t Alex would kill us O.O

          • Alewawa

Ah! It’s a biig secret :) Besides, the people who heard it are part of something special. You’re probably not awesome enough.

      • Smile

It’s on the internet. Use your common sense.

  • http://awesome-nadroj.tumblr.com/ Awesome nadroJ

I very much agree with AmyOFaz, I’m sure it’ll grow on me, but I don’t much like the harmony. One or the other would be better. I think most everyone agrees that it didn’t really come together too well. But overall I like it. It’s nice, but I prefer the acoustic version.
    And the artwork is SPECTACULAR!

  • Zanna

Very nice, I like the synciness

  • Hannah :)

It’s a bit too… Tom Milsom-y for my liking. Tom’s voice overpowered Alex’s in parts and the melody didn’t really fit the lyrics. I’ll just stick to listening to the acousticy preview :)

  • Anonymous

Actually, I love this so much.

  • Angie_maciel

    I LOVED IT! loooooooved it

  • Readerdancer

This song would be so much better with one person because they’re off sync

  • http://twitter.com/Jenni399 Jenni Pirrie

I sort of agree with everyone else, I don’t like the harmonies at parts (not through all of it though!)
I really like the melody and the instrumentation though

  • http://hatgooch.posterous.com/ Harriet

I agree with everyone else. I LOVED the acoustic version, but your voices just don’t fit each other’s frequencies.

  • Elisabeth Cortez

I personally loved everything about this song. I liked all the harmonies, but as an acapella and choral singer that’s what I love, so maybe I was more prepared to adore it. Anyway, I like how the light, peppy tune contrasts with the darker lyrics, and I just love it anyway!!! Thanks for letting us hear it for free, great job Alex!

  • http://hatgooch.posterous.com/ Harriet

Just listened to it a few more times. LOVE IT NOW. Still feels like Tom’s song, but you do really just need to get into it. I think I was just expecting the same as the acoustic version.

  • http://twitter.com/PlugInMeadbhyy Meadbh

To be honest I really enjoyed this :)
I know people are talking about harmonies not working and everything but we do also have to remember that over the decades the human ear has become accustomed to hearing alot alot alot of auto-tuned voices which sadly makes people who cant sing at all sound perfect. Every day on the radio we hear chart songs being belted out and the majority are auto tuned. NOT all of them before I get attacked by fans of artists who can actually sing. Basically what I’m trying to say IS that you two did a brilliant job and I think the voices sound absolutely fine to me :

USE YOUR INNER EAR FOLKS ;)

Tweet me if ya want! @PlugInMeadbhyy

  • http://twitter.com/Ninjasneedlove2 Ginny Weasly

I actually really like this song! It could be better, but then again couldn’t they all?

  • suzy

    i heart it

  • Bookworm557

Is there an acoustic version? I have a feeling that I’d like that one a lot better…I didn’t think the harmony sounded bad at all though.

    • you’ll never know

there is but it’s location is secret…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=597755180 Jordanne Leigh Benton

Not as good as I thought it would be :/

  • J-MAN

I’ll pretend I can’t hear the lyrics…but the production, arrangement and melodies of this are fantastic.

  • smiichan

It’s not good enough. Sorry Alex

  • http://profiles.google.com/jouke.vandermaas Jouke van der Maas

Why is everybody saying it could be better? I like it.

  • Snowmjoke

At first it was a bit over bearing, then it grew on me. it is a really good song. catchy, which is nice. Good job.

  • Jules

I personally really like it! It’s really catchy and obviously a lot of time and effort went into this, The instrumental arrangement you’ve created for this song impressed me the most and despite what people are saying about harmonies, I actually think they complimented each other quite nicely.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Miller/652415612 Joe Miller

I love it. And no, I don’t think it could be better.

  • SixAndOneThird

    Lake Lastufka! ROFLMAO!

  • Teesh

I actually thing your voices work together really nicely. I’m not a huge fan of the actually music itself though. I do like the lyrics, so I’ll definitely be buying.

  • Hannah Volckmann

this is a lovely song, alex.

  • Nisha again ;)

I really really loved the song. Like, I LOVED it. It was different and fun to listen to and I just really enjoyed it. Tom Milsom and Alex Day are both really awesome musicians and I think the fact that they collaborated on this is what makes it so amazing ^_^

  • Izzy

It’s amazing, it’s been my fave song for months, the finished product is fab!!<3

  • Nisha again ;)

Sorry I keep commenting, but also: I really like the harmonies. I don’t know what you guys are talking about, I hear alex fine.

  • WhiteRose9090

i like it. its not what i expected at all but it grew on me as the song went on.

  • Ruby

aw this is cute. The upbeatness of it keeps it from being too melodramatic imho

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OGENYIBNEQ6N2DW2ES63J5RV6E Ash

I actually loved the harmony. I think Tom and Alex both have fantastic voices, and them coming together over the light but generally powerful melody is great. I’ll definitely buy the song tomorrow, I love it.

  • noodlewarfare

It feels a bit off. I’m not going to be biased and make up some sort of excuse for it. So it’s a bit odd, harmony not totally lined up. HAH but it doesn’t matter, because it grew on me through out the song and I LOVEIT c:

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFMVSFJYYMXCWSNTBJK4RAKRTA J M

I loved it, but I think they should have sung separately, like Alex singing one bit, then Tom the other because their voices together are too much (my opinion). But I like the lyrics, and the tune A LOT :)

  • Kirsty_yey

so… used the last of my itunes credit a day ago.. NEED MORE

  • Al

    It’s really great.

  • Sassysassyrach

this is so cute!! great job!!
this reminds me of when I was younger and I met this boy from a different country as me :( I never saw him again tho

  • http://www.facebook.com/deborah.a.hopkins Deborah Ann Hopkins

I love it, and the artwork is amazing!

  • Guest

    acoustic version??? please share!!!

    • Doctorwho500

just give up it is a secret you will never be able to know

  • http://www.facebook.com/charlotatot Charlotte Wright

Love the Harmony. Love the lyrics. Love the music. Love the artwork.
    Good job, sirs. :)

  • I The Blog

i like the tune, its different and i like the concept of the song, both of the voices kind of kill the song a tad.

  • Rahrah

    It’s a grower.
First time I listened, I was a bit.. ‘..oh’. Now I’ve listened a few more times it’s more like ‘oooh’. I like it a lot.

  • Riannalouise

I love this! It’s just a really happy feel-good song and yeah, it does kinda remind me of a nintendo theme song but it’s still amazing. At first I thought that the two voices together was a bit naff but actually, it works really really well!
So yeah, props to you guys!

  • Redhels1997

    LOVE the cover!

  • 1x

    Sucks!!!

  • http://twitter.com/friendofhagrids Connor Wilson

sorry but that sounds like something that i hear on children’s tv. what happened to the alex that wrote the world is mine?

  • elise

I really like it! my only criticism is that all the different sound effects kind of take away from the vocals (which i really like) and makes it sound a bit busy!

  • Sophie

wow, i think toms voice got stronger. really catchy song, love it :D

  • Jack

I like the cover and its really catchy, but is this song about someone, whos name starts with a C and the last name starts with an H? SOOOOOOO cute!!!

  • amelia

I agree with a lot of the commenters that its good but not great. I think it worked really well as the acoustic with just Alex’s voice, and Tom’s voice just doesn’t really blend well in this song. There were parts where it seemed like Tom feat. Alex, and I think Alex’s voice fits the song much better. But, maybe that’s just me…

  • Jessica

I think the original message of the song got lost somewhere in production. There are too many things happening which takes away from the continuity of the song….that sounded a bit harsh, it was lovely but I personally prefer the acoustic version more. Just one person’s opinion, I’m sure other peopled loved it. And if you love it that’s all that matters.

  • C361

i’m a huge fan of this song. great job, alex & tom!!!! :D personally, i really liked how ALL of the elements came together–the vocal harmonizations, the instrumentals, and the synthy sounds–and gave this song a slightly quirky touch. the music was just so colorful and full of so many interesting layers. :)

  • Ttimothyblakelyy

Hey, i’ve been seeing a lot of negative feedback, and i really don’t get it. this is an AMAZING song, and the production just completes it. The harmonies were a little suprising at first, but its all just so good. The counter melodies, the dynamics, im very excited for Epigrams And Interludes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000047204077 Erica Michelle

Amazing song :) I love it. Both Tom and Alex are really great singers, and they work in this song. Harmony, Tune, everything is great. :D

  • Mortadelle

LOL I read the comments and of course my reaction is the opposite. I’m in love with your voice and Tom’s, and you 2 together (I mean VOICES) is dreamy to my ears – which might salvage the fact that I’m not too too fond of the almost-midi music.

I dunno where your music is going, Alex… I first fell in love with Parrot Stories and I felt I needed to adapt a bit to TWIM – but I love it. Hearing this, I really wonder where you’re going. I love the acoustic version, but… I remember what happened with The Doctor is Dying and it was brilliant.

I’ll tag along. Meanwhile, I’ll try to see if I can get used to the music you chose for this song… ;)

  • Charlie_rawr

You have an awesome voice Alex and i think you should try and concentrate on emphasizing your voice rather than the instruments and percussion in the song. This song just sounds bit too clustered to me. There just seem to be a LOT in the song that probably aren’t needed.
A great song that you have made/wrote/produced would be ‘Holding On’.
    that’s just my opinion.

  • Mortadelle

ok… You sand with Ed on SGL. You sing with Tom here. Please make an album that’s called “Duets with Ed and Tom”. Please. Or, if it’s not called Duets with Ed and Tom, call it what you want, but make one please please pretty please oh god.

  • Cara!

this is tops. just great. i dont care what anybody says i think its brilliant and peppy even though its disastoriously depressing…..thats what i like hahaha! marvelous job alex! :D

  • Category Zero

I like it well enough but I think that Tom overpowers Alex through a lot of it. :)

And bragging about a secret acoustic version that you know the location of is not nice, people. :)

  • No_one

grew on me…. After listening a few times i started really liking it :D

    Good Job Alex and Tom!

  • http://twitter.com/misstaramcmahon Tara McMahon

    It’s so lovely!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jodie-Lam/632105791 Jodie Lam

The lyrics are great but well as someone has already mentioned the music is too mind-catching or distracting its like you actually have to pay extra attention so that you can focus on the lyrics… but well anyways you did a really good job. ;)
And i bet everyone can see the efforts youve put into this song so yeah…
Hope to hearing more from you soon!

oh and btw i really like the simgle artwork.

  • Amelia

I liked it better acoustic. But I always prefer acoustic.

  • Amelia

Though, I love, love, love the cover work :)

  • Lily Rose

I did not expect this to turn into techno-ish-y. It feels like too much, I wish there was a happy medium between this and the acoustic.

  • Alakakatie

    These lyrics are beaut!

  • Htvthu

    amazing!!

  • http://twitter.com/hdonkers Heather Donkers

    I like it

  • Hannah Thunder

I really like this song. At first, the voices don’t go together perfectly, but I think eventually they work together brilliantly.

  • Hod

I think the music, and some of the instruments were slightly too loud, covering the vocals up a bit. The song really reminded of the Beatles sound at one point too! x

  • The Doctor

Fantastic song, love the tune, HOWEVER, I don’t like the ‘fade-y’ background vocals when Alex/ Tom sings. I think it’d be better if it was just the main vocals and some parts were dueted (yep..that’s not a word but you get what I mean). I’m sure I’ll grow to like this though

  • TB <3

omg… im across the sea :D

  • http://reynavilla.com/ reinix

Ah. Love that LeakyNews is covering DFTBA artists. Keep up the awesome, guys! :D

  • Danielle

I think the song sounds real nice. Plan and simple. [:

  • Britt Mc96

better if it was just one person singing..

  • http://twitter.com/hogbenfan Ben

Wonderful track …. I was in shock at the musical accompaniment on the first listen (quirkiness in over-drive) …. second listen and I think it’s going to be a classic of its time

  • Emma

The two voices together are some getting used to but besides that an awesome song. Love it.

  • cherimon:)

    this is so about Kristina…

    • ILoveSwissRolls

thats the first thing i thought when i heard this :/

  • Telo

I love it. I think it’s a really unique sound and if you lost the harmony it would fall flat. It’s very catchy. I’ll definitely be buying it. Bravo.

  • Laura

I like it, especially the intro! But I also like the acoustic version too.

  • Ash

I definitely liked the acoustic version better. This is wonderful too, I just feel like a lot got lost.

  • אביגיל וולד

    10 seconds and INLOVE
    Just sayin.
Musics brilliant and I can’t say nothin bad.

  • caitlin moore

I love it.. But is it Alex’s song? I think the way it would’ve really worked is if Tom’s vocals were more in the background..

  • Lizzykeys22

    I think it’s totally brilliant.

  • Emma :)

I also prefer the acoustic version; I think the heavy music drowns out Alex’s voice on here but the acoustic is very quiet and sounds really awesome, but this is pretty bad ass! :)

  • Kathystein100

I actually like this song a lot. I don’t quite understand what everyone finds wrong with it…

  • acciolocket

I like it but with the sounds, I don’t foccus on anthing but the sounds. I do like the melody. The sound is very unique. I love it.

  • Ravioli

    Make an acoustic
    Delete the pop
This song doesnt feel like love to me, think of the girl then sing it i feel like your just singing the song for the producers.
This album cover and with the song and the vocals have a lot of potentional.
Great effort! Thanks for following your desires.

    • http://twitter.com/hogbenfan Ben

Isn’t the point of the song that he’s not in love, but fooling himself because he’s being loved and that’s good but not love?

  • Rainbowpony55555

    woooooooooo i like this song

  • Happyhippo

This just makes me think of song music on the underwater levels on Mario. No?
Also, not sure about the harmonies, maybe if they were both Alex or Tom but not sure really. It might grow on my but at the moment, the acoustic is better IMO.

  • LTBudde

The lyrics are adorable, but for some reason the techno beat reminds me too much of Owl City and I’m not a big fan of them. id prefer it to be maybe put to just a piano or acoustic guitar because its quite a cute little dilly; but thats just my opinion. :) keep the music coming!
