Firefly Reunion TV Special (UPDATED)

Managing Editor

Whedonites rejoice! Firefly is getting a reunion TV special! As previously reported, the cast of Firefly will be getting together for a panel at ComicCon. But Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the show’s 10th anniversary will be celebrated by the Science Channel with a one-hour special about the reunion!

The special — titled Browncoats Unite — will include footage from Friday’s reunion panel, featuring several members of the original team including star Nathan Fillion and creator Joss Whedon. Plus, the cast is shooting an in-depth behind-the-scenes roundtable interview that will dive deeper into burning fan questions about the beloved series. Both the panel and the roundtable will be moderated by Entertainment Weekly‘s own Jeff Jensen.

Now we can be a little less sad on missing out since it’s being archived for our geeky consumption. How stoked are you guys?

Thanks to EW for the heads up!

UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly now has an AIR DATE (11.11.12) and a PREVIEW!

I cannot wait! And now I don’t have to just scrounge for clips on Youtube. Although I’ll probably still do that… Especially since the special doesn’t air until November, urg.

Ah, Jewel Staite, one of my all-time silly crushes. Amazing that the show is still being celebrated and talked about after such a brief lifespan. Too bad it probably missed its chance at being resurrected (like Family Guy or Futurama, both canceled but brought back years after their end because of high DVD sales). After the ginormous success of Avengers, I’m sure some Fox execs are kicking themselves (although the turnaround rate of the average television network executive or movie executive is so fast that I’m not sure they have time to rue any of the decisions they make; there’s always some new guy or gal at the helm). I still feel like even though the film wrapped up quite a few of the show’s ongoing plotlines, it was still a little too rushed, squeezing what probably amounts to a few seasons worth of planned story into a two hour movie.
