Gary Ross to Direct “Peter and the Starcatchers”

Editor

Gary Ross is no longer connected to the Hunger Games film franchise, but his next project will be another book-to-film adaptation. Ross is set to direct Peter and the Starcatchers, an adaptation of the first of five novels by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.

The story focuses on Peter Pan’s life before the events that occur in J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. In 2009, the novel was adapted for the stage, winning five Tony Awards. There have been whispers of a movie since 2005, but it has not taken flight (har, har) until this summer. Filming will begin in 2013.

Did Ross make the right choice, leaving HG and starting a (possible) new multi-movie franchise? Sound off in the comments!

It’s a shame Gary Ross couldn’t have retired. He’s a terrible director and the thought of him getting his grubby hands on Peter is really lame. Here’s hoping he gets too greedy again and they go with someone else.

I’m just glad anyone is doing this. but it’s going to be so difficult, the play and the books are two completely different beasts and to add a third element in there is a big ask.
