Has Shailene Woodley Been Cast in TFiOS?

Author John Green tweeted the following today:

And Internet sleuths that we are, we noticed that both Shailene Woodley and John Green recently followed each other on Twitter.

We know there was going to be a director announcement “in two weeks” exactly two weeks ago; could a double  announcement be on the horizon?

Many, many actresses names have been bandied about for this role; her as long as a year. Producers have previously said every big actress has been interested in/considered for this part. Her publicist has told us that she under consideration but not yet confirmed (which is what a publicist must do before the final word has been given).

Shailene is best known for her acting in The Descendants and Secret Life of the American Teenager; she is also playing Beatrice Prior in Divergent, the movie version of Veronica Roth’s dystopian novels (which is why we didn’t add her to this article). She’s also slated to play MJ The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, never doubt the power of Hollywood schedulers: could she be pulling a Jennifer Lawrence, doing a Hunger Games and a Silver Linings Playbook type movie one after the other?

We’ll see, soon, if we are just being crazy Internet people or have fallen for a Twitter-themed hoax.

Update: Signs seem to say go. Since we posted this article Shailene retweeted John’s tweet. Expect a director AND lead actress announcement very soon!

    No mention of the fact that’s she’s also playing MJ in Amazing Spider-Man 2? Because that’s HUGE.

    I’d whine because Secret Life is just the most awful teen drama on television, but that movie she did with George Clooney was pretty good and, visually, she fits the role.

    I don’t know anything she’s been in, but she looks a lot like how I imagined Hazel, sans makeup, so as long as she’s a good actress, I’m so down for this. *seal of approval*

    I just hope that she, you know, cuts all of her hair off. Doesn’t Hazel have a Mia Farrow cut?

    The more I thought of this, the more I thought it was a good idea…I actually like the idea of her more than any of the other people that have been an option.

    I feel like I need to go watch The Decendants now because I honestly cannot picture her as Hazel purely from my vision of her from Secret Life. Then again I haven’t watched it since season 1 which was like 4 years ago so I’m sure she’s grown as an actress since then. She was never on my short list, but if John approves, I guess I can bring myself around to the idea since I trust his opinion.

    First Tris in Divergent and now Hazel Grace?! Exciting! I’m not very familiar with Shailene, but if she can do these do roles justice she’ll earn a prestigious place in my heart!

    She was wonderful in the Descendants, and I thought of her when people began speculating. However, selfishly I still imagine the two leads as Ezra Miller and Mae Whitman.

    I’ve never seen her in anything but she doesn’t look like I image Hazel, but I felt like that about Jennifer Lawrence for Katniss and I loved her. It is a bit strange though if she plays both Hazel and Tris, because I am extremely excited for both movies and having any actor play both roles is weird, plus Mary Jane is Spiderman 2?
