J.K Rowling Is No Longer A Billionaire

Managing Editor

The news that J.K Rowling is no longer a billionaire may come as a surprise to some Potter fans, but that’s the truth of it.

Entertainment Weekly reveals that due to a combination of charity (Rowling has given over 160 million dollars of it to worthy causes), and paying high British taxes, Forbes’ Rich List has failed to include her this year.

While Rowling (who, as many Potter fans know, was once on welfare) no doubt doesn’t mind the change, do you think her new book will put her back onto the list?

who cares if she’s not a billionaire? she’s incredibly talented and will probably survive being *only* a millionaire.

I know right? Who needs money when you have talent that incredible and fans as loyal as hers? And I can’t wait for her new book XD I don’t care that it’s an adults book, (and I doubt all the others Potterheads do either), but Jo wrote something, so I am going to read it.

So she paid her taxes and gave millions to charity? Um… that just makes me like her MORE, which I didn’t even think was possible! Silly Muggles…

If that book doesn’t force the New York Times to create ANOTHER Best Seller category, then we shall ALL fail…

Seriously? This is the best way ever to NOT be a billionaire. Pay your taxes (which, btw, probably pay for a few SCHOOLS in England) and give it away.

Totally agreed. There are plenty of millionaires and billionaires alike that could learn a thing or two from her line of thinking. I call it the Bill Gates approach. The guy may be obscenely rich, but the amount of money he has donated to charity over his lifetime has been equally as astronomical. JKR is truly managing her money like a champion.

I bet it will. I think it’s awesome that she likely could still be a billionaire if she so chose, but decided charity causes were more worth her earnings.

That’s incredible. I’m so proud of her. In a bit of shameless blog promotion, here is my full reaction to Jo losing billionaire status: http://expandingpeace.blogspot.com/2012/03/jk-rowling-is-no-longer-billionaire.html

She always disputed the ‘billionaire’ claim. I doubt she cares about the money, other than the luxery of knowing that she will be able to pay her bills, and provide for her childrens needs. but seeing as her husband still works, and she still writes, she wont have to worry about that changing, because she and neil seem like intelligent, sensible people.

I would rather see her putting her money into good use than keeping it just for the sake of reputation.

We do not love her because she is rich, we love her because of what she wrote.

I wish articles like this could be written about all rich people! They should WANT articles like this to be written about them! What’s the point of unused GIGANTIC piles of cash!? I will never understand…
