Comic book fans are on tenterhooks for more details of Marvel’s big plans for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and it looks like they’ll only have to wait until ComicCon. Our friends at io9 are reporting on the next string of Marvel films in to continue in their comic book universe:
- Iron Man 3 (currently shooting with a release date of May 3, 2013)
- Thor 2 (in pre-production, release date of November 8, 2013)
- Captain America 2 (planned for April 14, 2014)
Then, we have Guardians of the Galaxy, the Avengers 2 lead-in set to pop in 2014, with A2 itself coming in 2015. For those of you doing the math, that’s five more Marvel films in the next three years. That alone has this geek excited.
But who are the Guardians of the Galaxy? We’ll let io9 help:
In classic Marvel continuity, the Guardians of the Galaxy are a team of superheroes from the future, where an evil race — hilariously named the Badoon — is gobbling up their worlds. Eventually, the Guardians go back in time to recruit the Avengers for help, a move that brings alien calamity in its wake. There’s also a modern (and way more marketable) incarnation of the team that stars an aggregation of endearingly weird aliens like Groot the living tree and the firearm-toting Rocket Raccoon.
So what about movies for Hawkeye and Black Widow? Or another Hulk ? Or any number of the other rumored films we’ve heard about? Supposedly, the post-credits for Iron Man 3 hint at an Ant-Man film, which has a test reel somewhere in the twisting nether. But Dr. Strange, The Inhumans, Black Panther, and our other Avengers still have their stores in development. But given that Marvel and Disney seem to understand this film-making machine, it’s entirely possible that we could see these in the mix in the next three years.
Thanks to io9 and Latino Review for the tips!
