New Game of Thrones Characters Revealed

Managing Editor

A new video from Game of Thrones has premiered live to the world at San Diego Comic-con. The video introduces a slew of new cast members for the various characters we’ll see in season three! Here follows a slightly *spoilery* account of the video, which you can watch below.

Among the characters are the Queen of Thorns, Shireen Baratheon, Thoros of Myr, Beric Dondarrion, the Reeds, Blackfish Tully, Missandei, and more. It’s very interesting to note that despite speculation, the Reeds were not in fact cut, but were rather being saved for later seasons. To many who have read the books, it seemed as though the characters of Meera and Jojan Reed were being replaced by the character of Osha (played by Natalia Tena- who played Tonks in the Potter films!). Fortunately the writers have bigger plans!

Who is your favourite new character that was introduced? Anyone you were hoping to see that didn’t make it into the video yet? This writer is personally very much looking forward to the scenes with Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, and readers of the books will know why!

THEY CAST THE BLACKFISH! I couldn’t think of a better choice, really.

No Mance yet :( Although I’m stoked to see Meera and Jojen in there; also Mackenzie Crook in any show is gold so that’s awesome.

Mance is 100% necessary, I can’t see how they would get by without him. I expect we’ll hear about his casting soon!

Cool cool cool. As already mentioned, yay for the Reeds! So many characters that I feared had been cut from the adaptation…I can see now why Book 3 is basically being adapted into two seasons; there are a lot of plot elements from Book 2 that were held back (and probably rightly so) so that things didn’t get too crowded in Season 2, character-wise. So Seasons 3 and 4 (fingers crossed) will be an amalgamation of all those unused storylines, plus the massive storyline of Book 3 itself. I’m extremely curious how they are going to introduce a number of these characters, as their entry points in story (according to the books) has already come and gone. There are a few characters shown on this video that I’m very curious about, but I can’t say too much because they involve heavy spoilers for the books.
