It is here: The next chapter in the den Lizzie Bennet Diaries’ version of Lydia’s Wickham trouble. Watch and discuss:

Here’s what we learned in today’s vid:

  • Jane is home because Lizzie called her.
  • “I posted that to show you in case there was any doubt that my sister had nothing to do with putting that on the Internet….Please don’t give that man what he wants.”
  • Dad Bennet is on the case, talking to a PI friend from college (callback to Mr Darcy’s attempts to find Lydia and Wickham in the book…)
  • Mrs. Bennet, however, has no idea. She keeps talking about Lydia and George’s future children.
  • Lizzie blames herself for not protecting Lydia, and bringing George into their lives. Also Jane is now a little sassy. Go Jane.
  • Jane LOST HER JOB IN LA to come home to her family.
  • “It’s not about doing anything. It’s just about being here and her knowing that she does not have to go through any of this alone.”
  • Jane suggests that Lizzie watch all Lydia’s videos. “Lydia listens to you. To all of us. But sometimes I think we forget to listen to her.”

Ooh, and we’re getting a little meta. Jane pointedly ends the video by talking about the fact that both of her sisters spend more time talking to thousands of people they’ve never met, than to each other. YOWCH!

I was literally wondering, just yesterday, how Jane’s future would play out. Because if she is in LA, how can she and Bing be near San Francisco together in the end? (Because Lizzie and Jane need to be near each other! I mean… don’t they! Shush, I WANT them to be.) That’s handled nicely. Also, the more I think about it, the more I think Bing is having some sort of med-student crisis. He could have been playing the expectations game with his parents in going to med school; what does a med student do on an interview, does anyone know? Are they interviewing at hospitals for residencies? Or is Bing considering a shift that will increase his happiness and therefore take him away from the path that he has been expected to take for so long?

Anyway, back to the video. We can see from the coming-next screen that Lydia is in the next video. And smiling widely. Too widely. Have she and Lizzie talked at all? (A lot of you in the comments point out she’s angrily yelling more than smiling, but that’s what I mean – it’s that really wide not really smiling smile yell thing.)

I also adored, in this video, Lizzie’s attempts to go to bat for her sister. She will know better than anyone that merely mentioning the existence of a thing increases its viability and popularity on the net; say “don’t subscribe to that video” is a bit like saying “Hey, don’t think about a big red balloon right now.” More people will every time it’s discussed. But it was still right, and heartfelt, that she try to urge them away from it.

Any lawyers in the crowd? Could George face any sort of prosecution for this?

The countdown clock clicks away, down to Valentine’s day. Right now it is likely that Darcy is slathering on the ol’ sunblock, slapping on a floppy hat, and getting ready to smack that waterlogged jerkface back to his tadpole state. Let’s hope Domino is ready.

(PS: In the name of science, and in response to my conversation with JP in the comments, I subscribed to the stupid sex tape just to get the email and to get on the list to discover what happens, even though I know I should have done this from the first moment but didn’t, because it is GROSS, even if it is fictional, UGH. Anyway. My subject line was: ugh you disgusting piece of whatever I really don’t even want to do this but it’s sort of a job requirement now and there was nothing in the text. I got this back:

These speculation updates from you are my new favorite thing. For real

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Thank you! I am having like… DEATHLY HALLOWS type of fun with this. It’s too good.

      • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I’m really glad you gave us a platform for all of our speculations. I love reading other people’s theories on everything and the comments section here always feels like a treasure chest full of great ideas.

To me the Deathly Hallows comparison definitely fits – LBD is the first time in years that I found myself actively searching for Fanfiction on the Internet. Every time one of my friends finds something new on the internet (like new tweets from the characters), text messages are sent. I am so happy to have found that excitement again and it just seems appropriate that it is caused by an adaptation of a book by my other favorite author (other than J.K. Rowling) Jane Austen. :)

    • lollifant

Mine too! I was looking forward to the episode and the LeakyNews discussions!

  • laura

Well, Darcy will save them just in time for the countdown to end, which means that in next thursday’s video the site will be down. I wonder what’s going to happen to Wickham…
    Guys, that’s all so emotional!

So I guess now everybody has the explanation of why Lizzie uploaded monday’s video. Good one!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

      the feels. the feeeeeels.

  • Judith

I don’t think Lydia is smiling in the preview….I think she’s yelling, hopefully at Wickham.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Yeah I think it’s one of those big forced smiles that means something else.

  • Alice

One of the things that I really liked about this episode was how Jane said that Lizzie and Lydia are similar. I’ve never really thought of them that way before but she is right, they are both very stubborn, strong willed and self assured in many ways. I can see how the clash of personalities that are similar in this way would be easier to see for an outsider like Jane.

I think one of the main differences between them is that while Lizzie tends to judge people fairly harshly, and that often means excluding them from her life somewhat, Lydia, perhaps through a need to feel wanted, lets people into her life without judging them enough.

It shows how brilliant the writers are that this series is not only allowing Lizzie to understand and overcome her flaws but it is letting Lydia do the same. Through Lydia’s videos we have been able to see a story that parallels Lizzie’s in her character development: from confident to lonely and doubting to (hopefully) a better happier person.

I can’t believe that this would end the way it does in the book for Lydia. Darcy will save the day and I’m sure our Lydia will be frown up enough to learn from the past, not flounce around showing off her new husband.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Honestly, I cannot see Lydia not being shamed and humbled by this at least a little. I get the reasons the book Lydia wasn’t; she did get what she wanted in the end and she never had a full understanding to begin with of what she could be doing to her family. This Lydia, I feel, will learn a few lessons and grow up.

It’s a different story with a different point. Jane Austen was MAKING FUN of everyone, with every line – everything was a nudge at how ridiculous all these social constructs were and how they got in the way of people having true and meaningful interactions. Of course, she managed to make a truly romantic love story happen right in the middle of all that satire. This is one of the reasons I can’t stand the Keira Knightley version, because it turns the WHOLE THING into a romantic sorta comedy, all moors and mists and whatever. Here we have a nice mix of social commentary (job pressure etc) and romance and drama and suspense.

Instead of becoming extended family, maybe in this version Wickham is made to sign some sort of agreement in exchange for “paid consultancy” or something, to legally curtail his behavior forever. That’s how you do it in the book – make him marry, therefore he is off the market and controlled and the reputations are upheld (a further indictment of the ridiculous social demands). Here, maybe you bring him in under confidentiality agreements that come with employment or whatever?

But really, I am fine with a good, old fashioned knockdown in the street.

      • lollifant

I’m glad that Lydia is much more developed in this adaptation, indeed I think that she will learn too, just like all the characters in the story. What do you mean with the “paid consultancy” and “confidentiality agreements”? Like something he has to show when he applies for a job? But then he can still go his way with women. Or that he would have to work at Pemberley so Darcy can keep an eye on him? And oh yes, give me that fight!

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

More like, if you would like some money from me Wickham, sign this thing that controls what you do and where you do it and who you do it with, and now go away and collect a check, and let’s never see your frog face again.

          • lollifant

I have the feeling he wil ask a loooooooooooot of money for that, because that would define his future. But luckily the Darcy’s won’t have problems with that. (Oh, Melissa, this feels indeed like Deathly Hallows and good old times in the LeakyLounge, but we had months to prepare theories and get ready for a new book, this goes so fast and it’s really happening literally right now and ugh Darcy just kill WIckham already!)

        • Alice

Well the one good thing in terms of accountability is that Wickhams dastardly actions are now known to the watchers of these videos. Hopefully that’ll mean he will find it harder to manipulate women.

Maybe PD can do a public service announcement about him when Darcy is done kicking his ass.

        • http://twitter.com/BrynThousand Bryn Thousand

I feel like Melissa’s idea would work in the instance that Darcy buys out the website or Novelty Exposures. Then he lays off Wickham and makes him sign a non-compete clause. Meaning he cannot profit under similar venture (porn vid) or using the same clients (Lydia) for a specific period of time. That sounds feasible.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Like, like, like. Buy him off, make him sign confidentiality and non-compete.

            OR! OR, or!

            Kill him.

  • laura

I wonder what will Darcy think when he watches the last video. I would like to see his reaction, to see him suffer for her!

    • Alice

Do we now if Darcy is still watching Lizzie’s videos? Maybe he will be too busy finding (and brutally murdering) GW.

      • laura

Well, I’m sure Gigi is still watching, and telling him to watch. And I’m also sure he can find 10 minutes a week to watch the videos of the woman he loves, who is in such a painful time. Like, no doubt.
I’m also wondering how will they bring him back to Lizzie’s videos, at the end.. I mean, he should go to Lizzie’s house, which is kind of weird..

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

I am starting to believe Lizzie will confess her love for him in a video of her own volition. Turnabout is fair play right?

          • Alice

True, and I guess Darcy would need to know if any of the family had made any progress. But we do know that Lizzie isn’t watching the Pemberley Digital
videos anymore. That is one of the biggest mysteries for me is how she is going to be able to convince herself that Darcy doesn’t care about her. I mean, he asked her to the theatre! Surely she can’t believe he wouldn’t want to have anything to do with her just because of the Lydia Tape?

I think that Bing will probably come back from LA, maybe
drop out of med school or whatever is going on there, and stay near the bennets again. Darcy would come along with him. I’m not sure who is going to play the Catherine DeBough role of confronting Lizzie about their relationship though…

I think confessing her love on camera has to happen! I think I will die with happiness if I here the intro:

“My name is Lizzie Bennet and I am in love with Darcy”

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

She also has to make the joke about how her feelings started when she saw Pemberley :)

I mean, when you’re in the middle of emotional turmoil it’s EASY to accept a worst-case scenario. And we see Lizzie say things like that all the time – especially in this video, where she seems to think that nothing she says or does matters to Lydia, and that she only does bad things, etc. I think she can rationalize away, pretty easily, the idea that Darcy is done with her. However, once she finds out about his involvement, as in the book, her wonderings about that will cease.

So we’re careening toward a mysterious disappearing of the web site… the Bennets having some sort of explanation handed to them about why it all worked out… and then Lizzie finding out about the Pemberley videos.

And yes. “My name is Lizzie Bennet and I am in love with Darcy”… must happen!

              • laura

                Melissa, you read my mind.
If Lizzie confesses her love spontaneously I’m going to die. ;-) The romantic teenager in me would totally overwhelm my present self..
Anyway, how long do you think the LBD will last? They could arrive to 100 episodes, it makes sense to me, what do you guys think?
                Can’t wait for tomorrow’s Pemberley’s video!

                • Alice

I really don’t want it to end! But I guess we are in the final arc now. : (

I can’t wait for tomorrow either, Gigi vids always manage to give me hope in this dark time.

              • Alice

You’re right, Lizzie is in a pretty bad mind set right now, poor thing!
I like the idea that Charlotte would be the one to tell her about Darcy’s actions and the Pemberly videos.

In the book Lady Catherine tries to elicit a promise that Elizabeth won’t marry Darcy and it is news of this that brings Darcy back to restate his feelings. I wonder how they are going to parallel this, Caroline perhaps getting involved again? I hope she will be in it again, I found her very interesting – so sweetly nasty.

                • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

I think it will be her confession of feelings, instead of Catherine, that brings him back. Catherine, though, can still call ehr to… OH! OH I GOT IT.

                  I got it.

Lady Catherine calls her to express outrage at Pemberley’s acquisition of this company – “are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted” – tipping Lizzie off about Pemberley and Darcy’s involvement. She hits the Web… boom. She confesses love. DARCY FLIES IN MID-SENTENCE AND THEY KISS. Yeah.

                  • Alice

                    YES! Right Decided.

                    That’s how it’s happening.

                    (Melissa Anelli said so.)

                    • lollifant

                      I’ll probably faint when this happens… :)

                  • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

Brilliant. Darcy would naturally be around to fly in mid-sentence because he is in Netherfield wingman-ing for Bing.

              • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

Someone had mentioned it earlier in one of the discussions that although we want to keep the DeBourgh part for the fun of it, it would be better for this new Lizzie to tell Darcy that she likes him instead of having to wait for his aunt to inadvertently tell him. Back then it would have been pretty daring for Elisabeth to find Mr. Darcy and tell him about her feelings, but it also seems a little out of character for Lizzie nowadays to passively wait until Darcy seeks her out again. So I would absolutely love a “and I’m in love with Darcy”-video. By that point in the story the poor man has gone above and beyond to show her that he still loves her (writing that letter, letting her into his company after everything she said, going along with her costume theater and hunting down Wickham), so I feel like it would be unnecessary cruel to make him ask again. I’d think Lizzie would be to generous to trifle with him thus. ;)

                • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

                  totally, completely.

                • Rumsy4

I too want Lizzie telling Darcy that she loves him, but to Darcy’s face.

                • Sunnykimmy

I definitely like tha.t I would also like if Caroline was the one to confront Lizzie instead of Catherine DeBourgh. I think it might bemore interesting to see an actual confrontation with a genuine reaction from Lizzie instead of costume theatre. Although I love Anniekins. I would also love if Charotte confronted Lizzie about her feelings for Darcy after watching the videos, because she’s really good at that.

          • lollifant

Yes :) But after she knows about Darcy’s involvement? I think she quite likes him already. But does Lizzie actually watch the domino videos, she must no about the project though? And she has time, nothing better than a youtube video to distract yourself. Or maybe she knows it’ll be about her and therefor doesn’t want to watch…

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

She quite likes him already in the book, too, by this point. It’s just all this stuff gets in the way and she buries it because she believes that candle has snuffed itself out. Once she knows about the videos, though… :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

I had this thought watching, too! What will Darcy do when he sees these?! Ugh.

      • http://twitter.com/theitgirl theitgirl

        WWDD?

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

          hahahah

    • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I can’t help but think about poor Gigi when she watches these videos. Everyone gets to do something, Jane and Lizzie rushed home to help Lydia, Darcy and Fitz went on a crazy hunt to find Wickham. Everyone gets to do crazy, impulsive things to keep their minds occupied. While Gigi, who knows how it feels to have your heart broken by Wickham, has to sit all alone at home and has absolutely nothing she can do to feel like she is actively helping. No wonder she uses Domino this often, I’d go crazy if I was in her shoes.

  • lollifant

I think it’s very brave of Jane to give up her job. Of course it’s important to come home in times of distress, but we know how she has struggled with this job, working long hours, not getting paid very well, and now she was finally on her way to rise a bit in the company. I mean, that’s what I felt what was happening, maybe I imagined it. :)

    • http://twitter.com/RavenclawHallow Tricia

That’s what I thought too. I think it is great how much family really means to her and she is clearly as much there to help Lizzie as to support Lydia. I hope Bing sees this video and realizes that Jane values the people she loves much more than any financial success and therefore her feelings for him could not have been based on his money.

      • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

And I think that this video more than ever showed how strong Jane truly is. She did what she had to do and then just stood by her decision. She is the one comforting Lizzie in the video, although the shock should be more recent for her. I think people do underestimate Jane a lot due to her sweet personality, but she is very intelligent and very strong, especially when it comes to her family. The writers have shown us hints of that side of Jane early on (her calling Charlotte out when she was talking about a drunk Lydia/ her placing the blame firmly with Bing instead of Darcy when it came to the end of their relationship). Bing really needs to step up his game if he wants to deserve this new and awesome Jane.

        • lollifant

Yes, so true, Jane is very strong, and Bing seems like the opposite, but let’s pretend he’s in the existential crisis and doesn’t know what to study anymore. The one video where Jane goes off to her new job in a new city, telling Lizzie to go on with your life, to leave your home. Wow, I felt like she was talking to me. Jane is awesome and so is Charlotte! I hope see her again soo too.

  • Sarah

The preview for Lizzie’s next video looks more like Lydia is angrily yelling than smiling.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Yeah it’s that loud angry smile thing she does.

  • http://twitter.com/jpegfilms J. P. Gagen

Question: taking ourselves out of the story ATM, SHOULD we subscribe to that link? Like I want to get what I assume will be an e-mail from Darcy/Pemberly that says the video WONT be posted or whatever way they handle that, but I just feel so gross about subscribing. WHAT DO WE DO???

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

I haven’t subscribed! But I know others have. I am relying on them to tell me. But then I’m gonna just go ahead and subscribe, because it’s a STORY AND WE CAN DO THAT. In real life I would not subscribe, just like I haven’t yet, because even the fictional supposition of it grosses me OUT.

      • http://twitter.com/jpegfilms J. P. Gagen

That’s what I feel! I KNOW there’s no video to begin with, and I know it’s all fake, but I still feel really, REALLY gross about it. I don’t know what to do lol.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

          Refresh – I subscribed. :P

          • http://twitter.com/jpegfilms J. P. Gagen

Okay, well if you subscribed, I guess I have permission.
I think it’s kinda hilarious how much this skeeves me out sending this fake e-mail to a fictional character, but I think it really serves as a testament to how powerful and real they’ve been telling this story.

        • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I am torn as well. I wanted to subscribe to not miss a level of the narrative, but I could never get myself to do it. Then in todays video I felt so guilty for even thinking about subscribing, when Lizzie started pleading with her audience (and therefore with us). It just cut right through my heart. I had to remind myself that this is all part of an obviously extremely compelling narrative. So I still don’t know. Right now, I guess I’m counting on you, Melissa, who subscribed in the name of journalism, to keep us informed.

(How brilliant does a transmedia team/author room have to be to get us all to feel so very conflicted about a fictional sex tape? They truly deserve ALL THE AWARDS.)

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

It’s really incredible. It’s OK, I got us covered FOR SCIENCE. You know as soon as it gets updated I will post.

      • Alice

I did subscribe, although I did feel a little gross for doing it. My thought is that they film quite a few episodes ahead right? So there is no way that in the story world Lizzie would know how many people had subscribed and get upset by it.

Maybe I’m just trying to make myself feel less guilty.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

          refresh the article ;)

        • lollifant

I feel really guilty about this, on the first day I sent them an email with the subject I HATE YOU WICKHAM! THE WHOLE FANDOM WILL FIND YOU AND KILL YOU! Because okay, let’s say I was a bit emotionally compromised at the time. But then I got the email back and I could throw up…

  • Aisling Greene

I like your ideas about Bing, hopefully he will get a nice job in San Francisco. I was wondering if Lizzie would move there for Darcy in the end, especially if Jane isn’t there, I thought that would be unlikely and Darcy wouldn’t move Pemberly so….hmmmm…we shall have to wait and see…
I am so obsessed with TLBD right now, its consuming my life!!!

    • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I do wonder how they’ll solve the ending. I can’t really see Darcy and Lizzie getting married. I could for some reason picture Bing proposing to Jane. And while we were all mad at Darcy for talking about social classes in his first proposal, he wasn’t completely wrong. I can just not picture Lizzie moving in with him, comfortably accepting that she’ll never have to pay rent. They’ll probably have to sort through some arguments before they come to a solution where Lizzie doesn’t feel like her independence is taken away from her by dating Darcy. On the other hand, all of the moving together and getting married happens in the “epilogue” of Pride and Prejudice, so the series might not even go there.

      • laura

Yeah, I don’t think there will be any wedding or engagement involved, since modern society doesn’t work this way. Nowadays people don’t just get engaged to stay together, they’ll probably be together and that’s it.
Anyway, if I had to pick a couple who could get engaged, this would be Lizzie/Darcy, rather than Jane/Bing, because Jane and Bing have been separated for a long time and he left her in a bad way, they have some issues to figure out.
At the opposite, Lizzie and Darcy had an initial clash, but than started to get to know each other and to change for and because of the other, and they kind of kept in contact, in the meanwhile.
I mean, the moment when Lizzie and Darcy get together, they will know exactly where they are and who they are, while Jane and Bing will have a lot more to work on and to understand.

        • laura

Lizzie and Darcy are growing together, while Jane and Bing are growing apart.
We know that they will be together in the end, but there will also be a lot of talking to do, I’m guessing.

        • Sunnykimmy

I think that it’s true though, Lizzie and Darcy will still have a lot of issues to sort through as well. They’re both stubborn and controlling and while things seem perfectly fine right now that they’re sort of friends…or maybe just friend-ly, I think once they start a relationship, they’ll have to figure out a way to make it work, where they treat each other like equals, don’t tiptoe around each other, but also don’t bite each other’s heads off. That will take time, arguments/ conversations, setting rules, expectations, etc. I think in that respect Bing and Jane’s relationship is a lot easier, since they’re both very “agreeable” people. Once they’ve sorted out their problem, the whole Bing leaving etc. thing, I think they’ll be fine. But Dizzie is going to take some work. And I think they’ll be a great couple because of it.

          • laura

I don’t know, I see what you mean but I don’t completely agree.
You know, Bing really hurt Jane, he left without saying a word, and that nowadays matters! Maybe 200 hundred years ago it could have been forgiven by Jane’s good disposition, but nowadays, in a modern relationship and in a modern world, where he would have had thousands of ways to act better, he can’t just go away with “Sorry I love you I made a mistake”. Just my feeling.
While Lizzie and Darcy already respect and like each other, I don’t know, I feel like they have been building something unconsciously since his letter and, even more, since Pemberley.
            Anyway, we’ll see! :)

No, I don’t mean the time it will take for Jane to forgive Bing. I defiinitely expect that Jane isn’t that easy, at least new Jane isn’t. But what I mean is that once Bing and Jane have worked things out, I think their relationship will run more smoothly than Lizzie and Darcy’s. I agree that Lizzie and Darcy are building something beautiful and real and in a way they respect each other, but when I look at the way Darcy treats Gigi, all protective and what I say is law, I think he’ll try the same thing with Lizzie. He means well and I think he’s that way because he’s had to take care of things and people for a long time. But Lizzie is just as stubborn and controlling as him, so she won’t sit back while he’s being Darcy. I think they’ll both have to compromise and it might take a while for them to make it work Unless I’m wrong and Darcy already respects and understands Lizzie enough to let her make her own choices or they want the same things, which means no conflict.

“Unless I’m wrong and Darcy already respects and understands Lizzie enough to let her make her own choices ” That’s what I think. Which is why watching the video was so eye-opening to Gigi, because they showed a completely different side of his personality.

                • laura

Exactly, I agree with you about Darcy already respecting Lizzie and seeing her as even to himself, which is how the original P&P goes, as well.
He is very protective of Gigi because she is his little sister and he had to take care of her since their parents died, and he is a “man of honor”, but I do believe that he sees Lizzie as a great woman, whom he respects and admires.

                  • laura

How old do you think they are in this version? Lizzie at the beginning is 24 and Lydia something like 20 and a half, that’s what we have. I imagine Jane and Lizzie are so close because they are also very close in age and grew up together, which would make Jane maybe about a year and a half older than Lizzie, so maybe 25 and a half-26 at the beginning.

Darcy seems to me a little older, maybe 29-30, since he’s been in charge of Pemberley and his family for quite some time; he seems to be pretty grown up and responsible.

Gigi maybe about 22, since she still has to go to grad school?

I can imagine Bing is a couple of years younger than Darcy, so about 27-28, since he’s still a student (though we know med studies last pretty long:).
Caroline younger, like between Lizzie and Jane, and Wickham something between Bing And Darcy?
What do you guys think, is this reconstruction reasonable? :)

                    • Aisling Greene

I agree with you on all ages except Caroline, for some reason I thought she was older than Bing, maybe the same age as Darcy?

                • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I think you are both right. He has learned by now that Lizzie has her own mind and that that is a big part of why he loves her. (That is something he did not understand when he first “proposed”/confessed his love to her – I am convinced that had Elisabeth/Lizzie given Darcy a chance after that first attempt, they might have ended up in a very different and unhappy relationship). But just knowing that someone doesn’t need your protection and actually sitting back and letting that person make their own mistakes are two very different things. So I am sure, that Lizzie and Darcy will not have a quiet peaceful relationship like Bing and Jane. They’ll probably have quite a few fights, but they’ll always learn from them and have a happier relationship because of it.

Remember when Lizzie was at Netherfield and expressed how glad she was that Darcy was willing to argue with her? They both need to be challenged, that is why they are so perfect for each other in the first place. ;)

                  • laura

I agree that Darcy is now more aware of how Lizzie is and respects her even more because of that, but I don’t think they will have so many problems.

Once they both overcome their pride and prejudices, they are quite similar: they are both prudent, wise and kind people, they both love deeply and care deeply about their families, at the same time they’re both very committed to their work…

I just think that once they’ve understood each other, their wills go in the same direction, there’s no clash between the two of them. They are quite made for each other, just as Bing and Jane.

                    • laura

Anyway, it’s so nice to be discussing “the love stuff” with all of you, guys! ;)

                    • Rumsy4

Episode 83 is the key to understanding how the Darcy/Lizzie relationship is going to work. They both are teasing, complementing and building each other up, they are clearly attracted to each other, and quite comfortable with the other person’s achievements. Oh, and did I forget to mention the chemistry?? lol
Darcy treats Gigi differently because he has been taking care of her for a long time now. In the book, Georgiana is astonished and almost alarmed at the way Lizzy teases her brother after marriage, but is made to understand that a husband and wife can take certain liberties with each other that they will not allow in anyone else.

        • http://twitter.com/theitgirl theitgirl

Interesting. I feel like the producers and writers are trying very hard to stick with the P&P canon, as it were, in the Lizzie videos, so I honestly think certain things need to happen for that to work:
          a) Lydia must end up with Wickham
          b) Jane must end up with Bing
          c) Lizzie must end up with Darcy
I mean, creepout effect aside, I suspect the writers have thought about how to make something a scandal that still is recoverable. Also, I think Bing must make a commitment to Jane to show that he won’t just ditch her again, and with Jane being a sweet and traditional kinda woman, marriage makes logical sense to me.
Also, everytime I read P&P or see an adaptation of it, I think of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”

          • http://twitter.com/theitgirl theitgirl

By recoverable I meant to say, making the relationship recoverable.

          • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I honestly don’t think there is even the slightest chance now that Lydia is goiing to end up with Wickham. Like I said before, they also took liberties with Charlotte’s storyline by letting her accept Mr. Collins’ offer and then having her find a way to still be happy. The old Lydia got what she wanted out of the marriage, but I doubt the new Lydia would want to be with someone who betrayed her trust like that.

I do agree wth you on the Much ado about Nothing comparison though. I guess they were both early modells of what a good romantic comedy should be like. :)

ATTENTION, ATTENTION. Who is THIS ANNE ELLIOT person? https://twitter.com/MsAnneElliot

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Which I mean to say – is she real, or is this a fan thing? LBDOfficial follows her…

      • Aisling Greene

I think this is a hint at what’s to come….

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

I am obsessive and have a problem and have discovered her first follower was a transmedia editor for TLBD. So this is real.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

            I think.

            • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I assume you are talking about Alexandra (@nonmodernist)? I had noticed that as well, but I think I remember her saying that she occasionally reads fanfiction and a lot of the LBD-producers/authors/etc. follow fan accounts on tumblr. I’m a sceptic by nature, I guess. But I’ll be very happy if this will turn out to be foreshadowing for future projects. :)

Whether she’s “real” or not, her stories are very entertaining. ;)

              • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

they are. I just think your FIRST follower is very telling.

                • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

After seeing what they did with a modern version of Darcy, a modern version of Captain Wentworth might turn out to be more than my poor fangirl heart can take. *swoon*

                  • http://twitter.com/BrynThousand Bryn Thousand

Rupert Penry-Jones slayed me in the most recent adaptation.

          • Alice

I hope it’s real! (and I am really glad you are obsessive and have a problem.)

      • http://twitter.com/TrillianBlack Trillian Black

I’ve always just assumed this to be a fan thing. She’s got too much spunk to be a reincarnation of Austen’s Anne Elliot, doesn’t she? But I’d love the twitter account to be real. Persuasion is my favorite Austen book, so I’d love to see what Anne is doing nowadays.

    • laura

No, no, Anne Elliot is just a fan thing, I’m sure because I read somewhere Bernie Su explaining it!

    • Rumsy4

It’s fan-generated. Anyway, the real Anne Elliot wouldn’t be tweeting all this, IMO. ;-)

    • http://twitter.com/youonlyleafonce magfry

When @TheLBDofficial linked to Anne Elliot’s twitter, they said that she’s fan-generated. I love her twitter feed, but it’s definitely not official. (You can tell by checking LBD’s lists on twitter; that account is under the “fan generated” list)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

Thanks for the tip about the lists! It’s still a really funny account. THough I can’t see Darcy actually getting drunk and passing out at a Pemberley party.

  • Shayla

In regards to Jane and Bing, I believe that after what his sister and Darcy had been saying about the financial turmoil that Jane and her family have found themselves stuck in, that Bing is working to increase his education so that he can support Jane. And after losing her job, perhaps Bing will give her the money to start her own business in San Francisco?

And as for Wickham, I don’t believe he’ll get charged with anything. I should have seen it coming, but because he rerouted the I.P. address, it makes the website almost impossible to link back to him. And since they can’t trace it back to him, he can’t be charged. Because he could be charged. But he won’t be.

Do you think that Wickham will be employed by some Canadian porn industry in the end? The thought just occurred to me. >.<

Also, a friend of mine posed this idea: Do you think that Domino will record Darcy fighting with Wickham? Maybe Gigi calls, and he accidentally answers for a secret video confrontation? I just really want to see George with Darcy's fist in his mouth.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412429 Melissa Anelli

If the entire point of Domino is to get us video footage of a Darcy/Wickham confrontation? I am OK wiht that.

I don’t think that Bing has to do anything to support Jane – Jane is a career woman on her own. Also Bing has his own wealth; no med student has his own chef if that’s not the case. But I can’t see our Jane accepting money to start her own business from the man she loves. That’s OK, though; that’s how we like it yes?

  • DiagonAlleyCat

ooh, I know, I know! Pemberley Digital is going to spin off Domino and they’ll hire Lizzie as spokesperson. Then she’ll see the videos AND she won’t actually be working for Darcy which would be kind of sketchy. That’s how she gets back to San Fran and De Bourgh could flip out because they hired Lizzie.

    *drops mic*

  • Clare

thanks for subscribing to the video, because you’re right, gross. So now you can inform me of any emails you recieve regarding this information :) also i wonder when will Bing find out about these videos? i think that will be the way he finds out how Jane really feels and i want it to happen soon, a slip from caroline or darcy to him would be wonderful

  • Nicole

I sent an email too (saying stop it please George) and felt physically ill when I get that email back. I really hope we do get an explanation for Bing and his med student status. I still don’t understand why he even moved to their town in the first place, since he’s a student (besides that it was essential to the plot of course).

  • http://twitter.com/SarahKHansen S.K.Hansen

    Oh god the tears.

Edit: I’m glad you shared what was in the email, because there is no way I can subscribe to that site. I just can’t do it, even though it is not real and there is not actually a tape, it still feels real.

To answer your questions on med school and Bing..

During your fourth year when you’re doing rotations (where some are pretty lax and would give him more free time, while others are pretty grueling) you are also interviewing for residencies in the field you want to specialize in. each place usually has one or two days that you have to be there. The whole residency program works like a match program like sororities and fraternities, where after your interview you rank your schools and they rank you and that’s how its decided where you spend your residency.

So there’s a chance you won’t match depending on your specialty. So hopefully Bing is traveling for a bunch of interviews but ultimately he matches in SF :)
