“Parks and Rec” Adds Comedy Icon to Cast

Parks and Recreation has attracted some fabulous guest stars so far in it’s 4-season run. This new season is no different – we’ve already seen Patricia Clarkson  as Tammy 1 in the first few episodes and there’s more cameos and great cast members to follow. TV Guide posted today that Carl Reiner will join the group midway through the 4th season as one of Leslie Knope’s campaign supporters as she runs for Pawnee City Council. TV Guide scooped a quote from executive producer Mike Schur about the casting news:

“Our research shows that, especially in local elections, the only people who really vote are senior citizens. It’s amazing. A very, very high percentage are retirees. So Leslie does any event at a senior center in hopes of winning the senior vote and [Reiner] is this sort of Godfather type figure — he’s really the main guy who’s endorsement you want to lock down. It’s super cool. We’re really excited.”

Reiner is set to appear midway through the season, around Episode 17. That episode will also feature Kathryn Hahn, who plays the advisor to whoever rivals Leslie in the Pawnee City Council race.

What do you think about the new casting decision? I’m personally excited to see how another cast member (especially Reiner) meshes with the rest of the P&R ensemble cast.

While I don’t agree with Carl’s view of the world, his work as an actor/director/writer has always entertained me. One of my favorite roles of his, and I know this is more of a contemporary role, was his portrayal of Saul in Ocean’s Eleven in 2001. That was where I was introduced to him and have seen many of his works since.

Parks and Rec can be a bit… uh… needy at times, and to be honest, I really don’t get into it that much. I feel it doesn’t hold it’s own water. But… who know’s maybe with great guest stars like this it will get better… if for noone else but me.

I’ll be watching this episode(s) at least.
