Seth MacFarlane to Host the Oscars – and Wilford Brimley Doesn’t Care

It spread quickly across the internet and moved from ridiculous rumor to stark fact that this season’s Oscars will be hosted by none other than Seth MacFarlane.

It looks like the Academy is desperately trying to find the right balance in its host. The over-bubbly charm of Anne Hathaway and James Franco was immediately countered with the classic constant of Billy Crystal, who was almost universally panned for his performance.

So they bring in MacFarlane. He’s popular with the kids since he writes, produces, and stars in almost every cartoon on Fox. He’s had a movie come out recently. He can sing but he’s not the overused NPH. He can dish out snarky insults, but he’s not as volatile as Ricky Gervais.  All in all – a safe choice.

It’ll be a slow build up to see how people really feel about the choice – opinions will bounce back and forth until the show airs on February 24th. But there’s at least one guy who doesn’t seem to care, Wilford Brim MacFarlane’s father:
