The Fault in Our Stars Movie: Shailene Woodley Cuts Her ‘Hair For Hazel’

After landing the role as protagonist Hazel Grace Lancaster in the movie adaptation of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, fans have wondered what Shailene Woodley will do about her hair. Hazel has very short hair and Shailene has the very opposite. Will she wear a wig or cut it?  Well, she has chosen the latter and decided to donate her locks to the Children With Hair Loss charity.

After deciding to donate her hair, she (along with Green and the movie’s producer, Wyck Godfrey) saw this as an opportunity to get even more people behind the cause to donate their hair to the charity. In this was born Hair for Hazel. Any Vlogbrothers fans will have seen John’s video on Tuesday talking about the campaign to decrease this bit of world suck. Quite a few fans have already jumped at the opportunity, cutting some or all of their hair off and sending it to the charity.

Woodley made a Tumblr post earlier this week talking about the upcoming haircut and how she felt. Not only does it show how awesome she is, but it talks about how she made the decision to cut her incredibly long hair. The post gives a real insight into her personality and why she feels so passionate about the cause. Ultimately what she is saying is:

…this was my attempt at asking you to take a look at your own situation. If you are in a place of absolutely loving your lengthy dreds, then GO YOU AND KEEP ON GROWIN‘ IT OUT! On the other hand, if you are in the position to cut off 8 inches of your hair, then I strongly urge you to do it. There are so many human beings out there who would LOVE the opportunity to possess long hair, but simply can not because of their current situation…. let’s share!

Yesterday she had the impending cut and tweeted a few pictures of the hair she would be donating and her own finished result. She has begun her physical transformation into the teenage heroine. Fans have also been posting pictures of their new short do’s, and the Tumblr and Twitter tags are already filling up. This is an awesome example of the power of fandoms and how they are a community willing to work together to help solve world problems, much like the article we brought you yesterday on fan activism.

If you or someone you know has at least eight inches of hair to spare, visit the charity’s website to find out if you are eligible and how to donate. If you’re on the fence, remember, it will grow back.

I think it’s so awesome she donated her hair for the role! I donate my hair whenever it get to be long enough. If I hadn’t just donated it in May, I would have loved to join in on this campaign!
