T-minus twelve hours to a new Lizzie Bennet*, and so it’s time to wrap up what you’ve been discussing in our comments.
First, though: if you don’t want to be heartbroken, don’t read Lydia’s twitter updates from today. Also don’t visit Wickham’s twitter to discover he unfollowed her after those tweets. No. Don’t do that. Creys.
So: some really cool theories happening, so let’s get right to it (yes, we’re totally obsessed, why else are you on this website? One of my best friends, I discovered tonight, has a Pride and Prejudice-themed TOWEL. Welcome to the rabbit hole!):
I’ve decided to just be grateful for Domino. By turning this into another spin-off I think the writers gave everyone a chance to just stick with Lizzie’s vlogs and thereby not seeing any of the added storyline. I like Domino for enabling us to see a part of the story that we never got to see in the novel, but I love Domino for showing us the different family dynamics. How Fitz is almost as important a part of Gigi’s life as Darcy (which again fits very well with him being her other guardian in the novel). How she might even be able to talk to him more openly about some things, because he is so different from her brother. I think Fitz, more so than Darcy, can accept that Gigi is an adult. He also wants to protect her (I loved their adorable tweet exchange where he so obviously tried to trick her into not being alone) but he knows that he won’t be able to keep her out of harms way forever and probably shouldn’t want to. Which is something Darcy will never be able to completely accept. And while I’ve seen people critizise him for it, I can absolutely relate. It is very difficult to see your younger siblings as mature grown ups who don’t need your protection anymore. With all the horrible things that Darcy and Gigi had to go through in their life it is very understandable that he will try to keep her safe no matter what. Seeing how he goes from “forbidding” Gigi to be involved to trying to reason with her and then to downright pleading with her makes his character so much more (heartbreakingly) believable. It shows a whole dimension of his character that we would have never ever gotten to see in Lizzie’s videos.
lollifant posits a totally amazing idea (though not likely one) that Gigi and Darcy are using Domino to lure Wickham into a TRAP!
But anyway, does anyone feel like Wickham could be watching these and escape from Darcy or could they be luring him into a trap via the domino videos?
This would make some sense, given Wickham’s known watching of all these vids. But also it would NOT make sense, since Wickham is not exactly a thorough researcher.
Theitgirl reminded us that Wickham could have a big gambling debt to pay off, and that they went to Vegas after all. (This makes a lot of sense. Darcy may have to pay off a debt, just as in the book, to make this all go away.) Meanwhile, par_parenthese makes my favorite DeBourgh theory:
I think it matters that Darcy’s company produces web content and especially video. I think PemDig is going to end up OWNING the Lydia tape, and that Ms. DeBourgh is going to do the “shades of Pemberley” speech in reference to the Darcy family’s respectable, generations-old business being tainted by association with seedy, badly-made amateur internet porn.
Yes. Darcy’s got to pay off Wickham’s debt and buy out the site/company, and thus be forever associated with seedy internet porn. Good call.
Also, we have a lot of support for peach-throwing.
