In March, Penguin Young Readers Group announced plans to publish This Star Won’t Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl, a collection of journals, letters, fiction, and sketches by the late member of the Nerdfighter community. The book, set to be released on January 28, 2014, now has a book trailer to accompany it. The trailer features interviews with John Green, Wayne and Lori Earl, and many of Esther’s friends.
The cover of the book was released last week as well as a sample of some of Esther’s writing.
Esther was known online as a prominent member of the Harry Potter and Nerdfighter communities who was a “bright and talented – but very normal – teenager.” She cared deeply for her family and friends and was known for her natural empathy. Esther was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 12, but invested her time into her online presence and friendships even as her mobility decreased. In 2010, she helped the Harry Potter Alliance win a $250,000 grant from the Chase Community Giving Contest. Esther passed away that August at the age of 16.
