The good folks at Deadline are reporting that the Thor 2 villain – and in some ways, the plot – has been announced! In the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, our resident hammer-weilding thunder god will go toe to toe with Malekith the Accursed… portrayed by none other than Christopher Eccleston. Deadline gives us a brief rundown for those who haven’t read the comics or even seen the Avengers cartoon:
He is a super-villain in the Marvel Universe, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. In the Marvel Comics, he clashed mightily with Thor, and … once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters.
Eccleston joins Zachary Levi – stepping into the role of Fandral – with the returning starring cast: Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Thor 2 is slated for a November 8, 2013 release.
