USA Today has an article online discussing the scientific advances in technology that would make it possible for an invisibility cloak object to exist. Once only something of fiction from the Harry Potter novels, the article reports that scientists have created two prototyped materials that bend light, the first of many steps in advancing the technology. The creation of these two materials is an “important step” in creating an invisibly cloak, along with other devices in the future. Ulf Leonhardt, a physicist at Scotland’s University of St. Andrews, is quoted in the article as saying: “Being able...
The calendar on Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling’s website has been updated to wish the youngest Weasley child, Ginny, a happy birthday. Here’s to you, Ginny! Cheers!
As readers will remember, Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling wrote an 800-word note card containing a story featuring a young James and Sirius Black for Waterstone’s “What’s Your Story?” charity auction. This Harry Potter prequel was included with the 12 other stories written on postcards for the Waterstone’s auction and published yesterday. The Telegraph is reporting that 10,000 copies were sold on the first day, with many shops running out of copies before lunchtime. Toby Bourne, the head of children’s buying for Waterstone’s, is quoted as saying:
Scholastic, the US publishers of the Harry Potter novels, have updated their website with additional information regarding some of the content to be found in the new “Tales of the Beedle the Bard” book by J.K. Rowling due December 4 of this year. Noting the material written 18 months before his death, Professor Albus Dumbledore is said to reveal ” not just his vast knowledge of Wizarding lore, but also more of his personal qualities: his sense of humor, his courage, his pride in his abilities, and his hard-won wisdom.” Of particular interest...

Tonight, at long last, I get to debut the website for and make some announcements about my upcoming book, Harry, A History. This book has been such an important part of my life for so long that I am almost unable to believe it will only be a few months until I can walk into a bookstore and buy it myself. (Don’t tell anyone, that would be embarrassing.)
But even better, it’s finally time to talk about it with you all. So, in Leaky fashion, have some news.
The Japanese translation of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” was released today in Japan, just two days after the one year anniversary of when the first copies of the book were originally released. The division of online retailer Amazon.com in Japan said in the article that “about 95,000” copies of the translated edition of the book were pre-ordered, making it the highest ever for a Harry...
