Whitney Houston Dead at 48

Founder

Various sources have now confirmed that Whitney Houston, the singer responsible for some of the greatest hits of all time, is dead. She was 48 years old.

Houston was an energetic and at times polarizing music figure. She had a gospel-trained voice that she used to great success as a pop diva, carving hits like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “The Greatest Love of All,” and, her most iconic, “I Will Always Love You,” into the pop history books.

Houston’s voice and physical manner deteriorated over the years owing to drug abuse. She was found in her Beverley Hilton hotel room by her bodyguard at 3:23 p.m. Medics were unable to revive her. Police said there was no indication so far of drug use, and no paraphernalia present.

With the Grammy Awards set for tomorrow, rumors are swirling about a hastily thrown-together tribute or the departed star. We’ll keep this post updated with the latest. In the meantime, from we at LeakyNews who grew up dancing in our living rooms to her sterling voice, here is a little reminder of her awe-inspiring talent.

  • Overcast

When we first got the record of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and memorizing the words to the whole album when I was a kid. It was a record so we couldn’t bounce around because it would skip. Old school!

Wasn’t I will always love you originally by Dolly Parton?

    • Melissa Anelli

      Yep!

(But it was her version that made it as big as it was.)
