This expansion will make its home in the resort’s Universal Studios park, connected to the Islands of Adventure area by a Hogwarts Express attraction. It will feature a Gringotts attraction, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, and even the Leaky Cauldron, among other things.
“I’m so pleased that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has proved so popular to date, and I’m sure that the attention to detail in creating the new Diagon Alley area will make this an even better experience,” J.K. Rowling said the press release for the expansion.
Details are fairly scant, but the press release mentions plans to gradually unveil more information over time. So we’ll bring it to you as we know it!
One point of interest: the concept art presents the long-rumored Gringotts attraction facade with a twist. A dragon looms over the building; while concept art does, by tradition, embellish, no Phase 1 concept art featured any flying wizards or Whomping Willows. This seems to be a deliberate hint at what Phase 2 will bring with its broader budget and experience in magic.
Theme Park Insider reports that an inside source has confirmed that take.
The expansion is scheduled to open in 2014. While no official date has been released, we’ve already announced that LeakyCon 2014 will be there. (But don’t miss 2013 in Portland; you can register right here!)
As with the first phase of WWoHP developments, details and announcements will continue to roll in over the next year. What are your expectations and wishes for Diagon Alley? Will we see you there in 2014?
