YouTuber Michael Lombardo Arrested

Following up our February story about popular YouTuber Mike Lombardo being under investigation from the FBI for engaging in sexual acts with minors: the Smoking Gun posts today that the musician was arrested.

UPDATE: LeakyNews has obtained the full criminal complaint, which you can download here.

Full federal court records are here. The charges indicate he allegedly enticed young fans to send him explicit photos and videos showing themselves masturbating. Michael Lombardo arrested last friday and spent five days in custody. He was made to surrender his passport, submit to mental health evalauations and participate in an electronic monitoring program. He was restricted from Internet, made to observe a curfew, and banned from contact with any minors.

Two of the counts carry a minimum prison term of 15 years (max 30). The other two, of the four counts against him, carry a five-year minimum (max 20). An FBI agent says, in the case’s affidavit, that one fan was 14 when she began to respond to Lombardo with nude images and video via Skype. The affidavit goes into detail about orders Lombardo gave the girl to strip and masturbate. A search of Lombardo’s house revealed this video on Lombardo’s laptop.

The second victim was a 16-year-old who met Lombardo through her school. A video of the girl masturbating was found on Lombardo’s cell phone.

The Smoking Gun reported in February that the FBI probe began after Lombardo attempted to arrange a NYE meeting with a 15-year-old fan. The girl’s cell phone contained multiple nude images of Lombardo and multiple explicit text messages, along with “plans to meet as well as explicit discussions of specific sexual acts.”

This is sad. However, let it serve as a reminder that a seemingly nice, nerdy person of either gender, is not worthy of automatic trust. Be careful who you contact over the internet. Above all, CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

Ok first of all, how can documents like that be downloadable here? Is there no data protection going on? Second, has he been in front of a court yet? I do get that the allegations are very serious and if he is proven to be guilty he is a disgrace to humanity. But he should get a proper trial. Even if the allegations are so distrubingly convincing. I am sad to see that a lot of nerdfighters dont seem to agree with that.

He should and will get a fair trial, but randoms who have no part in his trial get to have any opinion they want. That’s the way it is.

documents like that are available to the public…

Assuming that it’s a trial with a jury, it’s incredibly unlikely that anyone on the jury will have been on this site reading about it, and if they have any prior knowledge of the case then they’ll have to admit that to the court before the trial starts so the jury can’t be swayed by their already formed opinions. The legal system (here in the UK anyway) takes a while for cases to get through so if he’s only just been arrested/the initial investigation began in January he likely won’t be tried until later this year, if not next – I was on jury service at the start of July this year, two of the three cases I sat on were relating to events in June 2011 and the third was from November.
